“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.”
(Revelation 21:1 ESV).
We need a new image of heaven. How often do our minds just go to angels floating on clouds, playing harps, and choirs singing? Throughout the Bible we read phrases like “God will make all things new.” This is certainly true but heaven isn’t just escaping the broken and evil world we currently reside in. God cares for this earth and his original plan for having humanity dwell in, take care of, and fill the earth hasn’t changed. Revelation captures a picture of the earth being recreated. This is something as followers of Jesus we should anticipate now through the way we relate to and live in this world.
Action: In what ways do you live within the bounds of a fallen world? Imagine the brokenness of this earth being no more. That’s the work God is going to do! This week, pray in a way that anticipates the brokenness of earth being rid of and the newness of recreation being on the horizon.
