“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”
(Revelation 4:8 ESV).
The Book of Revelation is filled with images of creatures and people worshiping Jesus - the Lamb who was slain. Worship is something that we have been created to do on earth but it is also something that followers of Christ will do for eternity. Yes, you read that correctly. But if we allow ourselves to be honest, sometimes that doesn’t sound too exciting. What does it look like for us to anticipate worshiping Jesus forever today - the One who is forever and is holy, holy, holy?
Maybe it involves learning what the heart of worship truly is - it’s not just standing in a church room singing. Worship is the whole response to the reality of who God truly is. Worship is something we do by the way we live. It’s something we do when we’re honest with ourselves and reality. It’s how we steward the gifts God has graced us with. Romans 12:1-2 describes worship as: “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Action: Reflect on God’s holiness this week. How can you live in anticipation of worshiping Jesus forever? Begin practicing that type of worship today and pray that you would experience God’s grace.
