Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1)
Here we see faith described as anticipation. The assurance, the confidence that what God has promised for our future will surely happen. It is anticipation. We can pray expectantly, we can anticipate that God will be faithful, that He will act in love for us, that we are in His care. The rest of Hebrews 11 gives examples of God’s people acting in faith, in anticipation that God is there. What we need to remember is that the earthly circumstances of almost all of these examples of faithful anticipation weren’t always good. Their anticipation was elsewhere. They were anticipating eternal blessing. They lived in anticipation of it without taking it for granted. And they were not disappointed.
Action: Pray in anticipation that God will provide eternal blessing in the future, spiritual blessing now, even in uncertain circumstances.
