Insomnia. Noun. prolonged and usually abnormal inability to obtain adequate sleep.
If you know, you know... insomnia is a nightmare. In a recent season of dealing with insomnia, and all the usual helpful suggestions to fall asleep were failing me, I resorted to playing the audio bible from my cell phone hoping the monotony of Leviticus would lull me into slumber. Not only did my futile and somewhat insulting attempt fail, I was wide awake with fascination listening to the 613 laws that God laid down for the Israelites. 613! The laws provided a way for the Israelites to be with God and the depth and detail outlined in them shows what it would take to just be able to speak with Him. They are intense! And why shouldn’t they be?
He is God.
He is Creator.
He is Yahweh.
He is I Am.
He is Deliverer.
He is Redeemer.
He showed up for the Israelites over and over and over, displaying His love to them. So it should require a little, or 613, efforts to be in His presence. Right? He knew they would fail as we would most certainly fail today...but God loved them deeply and wanted them with Him. As He does with us today.
“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son.
John 3:16 MSG
Jesus, his one and only Son.
Jesus Deliverer.
Jesus Redeemer.
Jesus, lover of our souls.
Thankfully, because of His sacrifice, we too, just like the Israelites, are no longer slaves.
For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin
Romans 6:6 NIV
We have been delivered out of slavery. We have been redeemed by our Savior who suffered a terrible death unlike any in history, making a way so that we can be with God forever.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 14:6 NIV
If He can do all of that for me, I should be okay with losing a little sleep.
