Sing to the Lord a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, praise his name;
proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and glory are in his sanctuary.
Psalm 96:1-6
As I began reflecting on this passage in the Psalms, my mind immediately began singing this song:
Verses 1 and 3, in particular, really stood out. "Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth! Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!" What a beautiful depiction we are given of the worthiness of our Creator. All the earth. All the peoples. How vast of a place we call home. Our praise rings beyond where we live, beyond our neighbors, beyond our city, beyond our country, beyond our world, and even beyond our universe! Our praise and admiration can be significant because our God is big.
Action: Sit with the thought of how meaningful you are in the larger story of Creation. That in God's plan and story, you are worth so much more than you could ever imagine. Despite the vastness of Creation, God sees you right where you are. How can you praise Him with what He has given you? Take a moment to sing (or listen) to the song, and feel free to sing loudly to the splendor and majesty of God. Let His truth wash over you today.
