If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5)
James tells any who lack wisdom to ask God for it. Of course, all of us lack wisdom. But the first step might be to admit that you lack wisdom and need to ask God for it. Proverbs tells us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The worship of God and the posture of dependence and need is the beginning of wisdom. In other words, recognition that I need to pray for wisdom is where wisdom starts.
We can feel free to pray for wisdom in any particular situation, but James is also talking about becoming more wise in general. And because God gives generously to all without finding fault - we can pray for faith, for discernment, for peace, for joy, and wisdom.
We aren’t who we will be and we aren’t who we want to be - so let’s pray.
Action: Is there a situation where you want wisdom? Ask God for wisdom and believe in faith that He wants you to have it. Do you want to be wise? Seek His wisdom regularly and He will give generously.
