The Book of Acts

Facilitator: Beth Wade
Length: 12 weeks, Aug. 25-Nov. 10
Homework: No previous Bible study required. No homework

Join us around the table as we open the Book of Acts, the origin story of the Church. In Acts 1:8, Jesus gives His first-century followers their marching orders. (BTW, the assignment then is the assignment now.) Our assignment is to pass the message of Jesus’ love and grace to others. We’ll follow the geographic spread of the gospel from Jerusalem (Chapters 1-7) through Judea and Samaria (Chapter 8) on its journey to the ends of the earth (Chapters 9-12) in this fall session, and study our way through Chapters 13-28 in the spring session. If you are a Christ-follower, you heard the Good News because someone shared, so Acts is really your origin story as well. Add your voice to the conversation as we learn what Acts has to teach us individually.

Each week we will listen to the Scripture then discuss how it relates to us today.

Walking with God by Beth Moore

Facilitator: Sherry McCarthy
Length: 5 weeks, Aug. 25-Sept. 29
Homework: Daily personal study in workbook

What does it mean to walk with God not just for a season, but for a lifetime? No two people in Scripture walked with God identically. Sometimes, a stretch of miles when God seems gloriously obvious can be followed by months of wondering where he’s gone. Through Scripture and the stories of those who walked with Him, this study explores how God works uniquely in each season of our lives.

Whether you are beginning your faith journey or have walked with God for decades, learn to walk nearer and more attentively with Him each day.

The study book may be purchased at Christianbook or Amazon.

Monsters, Mountains, & Money

Facilitator: Marilyn Pavia
Length: 5 weeks, Aug. 25-Sept. 22
Homework: None

Everyone faces fears and apprehensions about money at one time or another. This class is for those who feel defeated, lost, or unsure of how to move forward. It is designed to create space for real conversations and honest discussion, with no judgment or condemnation.

Led by survivors who have failed, learned, and found their way forward, we will look at biblical characters who provide insight into our financial difficulties and help us develop an outlook for success. Come be part of this support-based class and take a step toward finding peace, gaining confidence, and making wise financial decisions.

Unlocking Revelation: Finding Hope, Peace, and Purpose in the Final Chapter

Facilitator: Mike Zile and other guest teachers
Length: 5 weeks, Sept. 1-29
Homework: None

Revelation is often misunderstood as a scary timeline of the end of the world. Using N. T. Wright's highly readable guide, Revelation for Everyone, we're going to demystify this amazing book together. In this class, we will:

  • Learn how to read Revelation without needing a "secret decoder ring."
  • Discover why the original readers found this letter incredibly comforting.
  • Explore what the "New Heaven and New Earth" actually means for our everyday lives.

The study book may be purchased at Christianbook or Amazon.

Jesus and Women: In the First Century and Now by Kristi McClelland
